Birds Of Eden
As our journey continues we find ourselves at a place called “Birds of Eden”.
Like something out of a movie scene, we delve deeper into what can only be described as a sensation of walking through the indigenous rainforests.
A Theme Going On
So yesterday we explored the worlds first free roaming primate sanctuary and today we venture further a field to the largest free flight aviary in the world.
The most amazing part of all of this is that it is all at our doorsteps in Plettenberg Bay.
Plettenberg Bay
Plettenberg Bay is a seaside town in the Garden Route, and home to many activities and natural beauty.
One of the most fantastic parts of all is the fact it has something for everyone.
Whether you want the beauty of the forests, the shores of the coastline or to experience the wildlife whilst learning plenty, it is all readily available in Plettenberg Bay.
The Crags
An area we have neglected in the past is what is know as “The Crags”. Home to a variety of activities including the Elephant Sanctuary and Monkeyland, there is something for the whole family.
As we delve deeper into the area, expect more on the famous wine estate, alongside the Snake Sanctuary and much more.
Initial Impressions
From a distance it looks like something out of Jurassic Park, as you approach what looks like a forest covered with a huge net.
It is only as you enter that you truly begin to understand the beauty of this place.
Birds
The birds themselves are from various locations, whilst many famous recognisable birds appear that even the non-avid bird watcher would recall.
It is both educational and awe inspiring as you walk the tracks spotting birds such as Parrots, Loerie, Flamingoes and much more.
The Walk
The walk itself is suitable for all fitness levels and all walkways are fitted with ramps for wheel chair access.
Guides are even offered for support if required.
You walk along a wooden pathway up and around the beautiful forests allowing you the opportunity to get up close and personal to the birds at the top of the trees.
The Setup
It truly is a magnificent set up to which they built this whole location.
With the mountainous backdrop the Garden Route has to offer, the visitors of Plettenberg Bay are truly spoilt with this experience.
Professionally set up so that it is suitable for everyone and so many opportunities to sit back and just watch the birds in their natural habitat.
An Experience To Remember
Even without the birds, the whole set up is truly magnificent. The forests are beautiful, there is a small waterfall with running water which you could sit and watch with a tranquil backdrop for endless hours.
It truly is an experience to remember.
To Conclude
If you are visiting the area, this is one of those trips you must experience.
Be sure to purchase the combo package, it doesn’t have to be done in one day, but Monkeyland and Birds of Eden are right next to each other.
Get out and do it!
