Eddies

A leisurely stroll through the Golden Gate in Southern Africa ends in a visit to Clarens where we planned to stay for the night.

With no particular plans on a place to stay we find ourselves exploring the area and ending up in a place called “Eddies”.

Clarens

Just on the outskirts of the Golden Gate, Clarens is a small little town overlooking the beauty of the mountainous area surround Lesotho.

Small and friendly in size Clarens offers an ideal stop off whilst visiting The Golden Gate.

Why Clarens?

Our plans were mixed on this adventure, as we knew the following day would be a long drive.

With the rain pouring down as hard as it could and the darkness increasing we parked up in Clarens debating whether to continue on our journey or venture further a field.

Prices

After a decision to stay in Clarens we researched briefly online and found a few places with the right sort of pricing attached.

Nothing was jumping out at us so we decided to drive around, explore the small town and then ask about.

Prices were insane, ranging from R800 to R1000+!

Bargain!

Then we came about Eddies. This ironically was one of the places available online for R600. Ryan popped in whilst I manned the car and returned shortly after to get his phone.

The lady had offered a price for a room that was more than the online price.

Next minute we found ourselves with keys to a small house!

All for R600 for the night! With a view of the mountains and two floors with unlimited WiFi what more could we ask for?

The House

The house was a beautiful newly laid out place with an odd decor.

Upstairs alone was beautiful, not just for the spectacular views but also due to the layout of the kitchen and front room.

Observing you could see this house could cater for at least eight people, which was rather large for two brothers.

It truly was magnificent and provided a beautiful nights sleep ready for tomorrows adventure.

Food

Whilst speaking to the owner we asked for recommendations of places to go for food the evening.

Being a small town there wasn’t a lot open that late but she recommended a Portuguese place and a little restaurant by the petrol station.

The recommended the Ox-Tail which we delved right into. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the place we dined that night but I can tell you it came highly recommended!

The Experience

The experience as a whole was fantastic, if you are in the area Eddies comes highly affordable with a great position.

There are restaurants near by for exploring, as well as a local beer tour if you get there early enough.

It comes highly recommended.

Our Experience

For us we were in heaven. Our journeys have taken us to various places to rest our head with no real demands other than a comfortable safe bed.

Eddies offered everything that we could have asked for.

The staff were friendly, the place was quiet, and the beds were great!

Conclusion

Overall I think the experience aspect summed up our stay. Ironically it was not a planned stop but it ended up providing us with a spectacular nights sleep, ready for our next adventure.
